Club Update 2

The pandemic continues, and the club continues to try to keep its members playing chess. Tactics, games, informal tournaments, we do not officially run any online sessions right now but all manner of chess is encouraged. I expect there will be increased interest in the chess club when we do open up again one day thanks to Queen’s Gambit, we just need to make sure it happens safely.

After the coronavirus vaccine is administered, we will likely receive public health advice (based on some American news) that the coronavirus measures of mask wearing and social distancing will remain in place for some time After the vaccine rollout is complete. This will likely be done to ensure immunity, and we will wait as a club to confirm that it is safe again to gather in groups before our directors meet to talk about reopening. Again, this may happen a long time after the vaccine rollout, because chess clubs are places where people are in close proximity to each other for long periods of time and they touch common things.

If you are reading this, I hope you are well and I hope you’re making the best of these unprecedented and difficult times. Feel free to say Hi, feel free to ask about us, because I can assure you that while we are closed for now, we are very healthy as a club and we have no plans for shutting down.
